about

Inge Cornil's paintings are known for their intense use of color, often luminescent, especially orange and green.

In her latest series, lines in landscapes, Cornil is showing compositions where these colors are brought together in a different way than before. Not in the people but in the buildings that have been placed in a rich natural landscape. There is a light in her paintings that comes to the fore in a remarkable new way in this series.

On the one hand, you see cabanas that already give the impression of being painted, this by years of erosion. On the other hand, flowing from that, Cornil shows architecturally impressive buildings in the same tropical landscape. What was intrinsically present with the cabanas – the melting together with the landscape - she also applies to more contemporary settings. It is striking that through these combinations, the overall picture – including both nature and buildings – becomes more intense and powerful.

We do not see any people depicted, but there is a personal moment. By frequently using morning or evening light, as a viewer, you experience the place, at a certain time. Also, you feel a movement in the image through the composition - through the use of transparent layers – as well as the use of luminescent colors which suggests vibrations.

Cornil does not want to make a statement, old versus new or nature versus culture, rather she is portraying in an intense way her personal experiences during her travels.
